December Solstice

Friday, December 21, 2012 marks the Winter Solstice, when the Northern Hemisphere is tilted farthest from the Sun. Many cultures around the world observe the December Solstice with special celebrations. This year, the Solstice has extra significance, since the Mayan Calendar is also scheduled to end on the same day. Several people have seen this as a sign of the end of the world.
