Proposed Time Change in Tomsk, Russia
Russia is proposing to change the time zone of Tomsk Oblast in Siberia, advancing the local time by 1 hour.
Update: The Law Has Been Signed
The Russian government has just approved the bill, so there will be a time change in Tomsk Oblast on May 29, 2016. Please see below for details.
If the federal law proposal is approved, clocks in Tomsk Oblast will be turned forward 1 hour from 02:00 (2 am) to 03:00 (3 am) local time on May 29, 2016.
A Very Likely Change
The change would also affect the Siberian oblast's administrative center in Tomsk.
The time zone proposal for Tomsk comes in addition to several recent time zone changes in Russia this year, and it is very likely this proposal also will go through.
One Hour Forward
Tomsk's UTC offset would go from UTC+6 to UTC+7, giving it the same local time as Krasnoyarsk, Norilsk, and Khatanga.
Other New Time Zones
Magadan Oblast, including its administrative center Magadan, is scheduled to go from UTC+10 to UTC+11 on April 24, 2016.
6 other areas in Russia already shifted on March 27, 2016, including the cities Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Chita, Gorno-Altaysk, Barnaul, Ulyanovsk, and Astrakhan.
Historic Changes
Russia has a history of time zone changes. In 2014, the country added 2 time zones and stopped using permanent Daylight Saving Time (DST).
