The European Astronomy Community Meets

Last week saw the annual meeting of the European Astronomical Society in Kraków, Poland. timeanddate was there to catch up with old friends, and share our experience of live-streaming eclipses.

timeanddate joined 1500 of Europe’s brightest astronomy minds in Kraków, Poland, last week to share knowledge, discuss the newest research, and make new friendships at the annual meeting of the European Astronomical Society.

Outreach and Communications

We were part of a special session on education, public outreach, and communication within astronomy. The session was co-chaired by timeanddate’s old friend Claudia Mignone of the National Institute for Astrophysics in Italy, and Claudia Antolini, a UK-based public engagement professional.

Adventures in Live Streaming

At the session, we shared some of the things we’ve learned from over seven years of live-streaming eclipses around the world, illustrated by one or two highlights from our live shows.

One of our experiences is that events on the ground can be as dramatic as events in the sky—as this clip from a football stadium during the Great American Eclipse of 2017 demonstrates.
