World Clock App World Clock iOS App Support

Frequently Asked Questions

I upgraded the app. Why do I still see advertising?

Please check if you received a receipt from Apple confirming the purchase.

If you have a receipt, please try to restore the purchase by selecting Restore Purchase in the settings menu and then restarting the app.

Is it possible to look up time zones?

No, it is currently not possible to look up time zones, apart from UTC and UTC offsets (e.g., UTC-5). We hope to make this possible in a future version.

Do I have to pay twice to use the upgrade on two devices?

No. Once you have purchased the upgrade you can use it on all of your devices at no extra cost. To download the upgrade on a second device, go to Settings > Upgrade or Restore and tap on Restore Purchase. Just make sure you are logged into the same iTunes account.

I purchased the World Clock - Time Zones app. Can I get the new World Clock app for free?

Unfortunately not. From the perspective of the App Store, these are two separate apps and there is no easy way to move your upgrade.

Can I sync my favorites between devices?

Yes, synchronization via iCloud is available. Just be sure to be logged in with the same iCloud user name.

How do I change the order of my favorite cities?

Tap on the menu icon (3 dots) and select Edit and Sort. For each city, a symbol showing 3 horizontal grey lines appears. Put your finger on one of those symbols, then drag the city up or down the list.

How do I select a different current location?

By default, the app detects and shows your actual current location. If you would like to set a different city as your home location, go to Settings > Your location > Set your location and select any city.

Why doesn't the city search find the location I'm looking for?

You may be using an alternative spelling. To accommodate for different spellings please go to Settings > Advanced and activate Include aliases and misspellings.

Can I also use a state name as a search term?

Yes, but please go to Settings > Advanced and make sure Include state names is activated.

Note that if this option is enabled, the city search will show all locations within a state matching your search term. For example, if you enter New Y, it will show all locations in New York State. This may be impractical if you are looking for New York City.

How can I display the time difference between locations?

The app can display the time difference between your current location and each city in the Favorites list. To enable this functionality, please go to Settings > Customize Favorites and enable the option Hour difference from you.

How does the widget work?

The World Clock App includes a widget that gives you access to your favorite cities in the Notification Center.

To open the Notification Center, swipe down from the top of your screen.

In the free version, you can add up to two cities to the widget. If you would like to add more cities, please buy the upgrade.

Why can't I add more than 2 cities to the widget?

In the free version of the app, the number of cities you can add to the widget is limited to two. If you would like to add more locations, please purchase the upgrade (Settings > Upgrade).

I accidentally bought the upgrade. Can I get a refund?

Apple controls the entire purchasing process, including the refunds. If you would like a refund, please try following the link in the receipt you receive when buying the upgrade. This should normally not be a problem within a certain time frame, but it's not us making that decision.

Does this app work on iPad?

Yes, this app is optimized for both iPhone and iPad.

Does this app work on Apple Watch?

No, but we may make this possible in the future.

How accurate is your data?

timeanddate.com is the leading website for all things related to world time. We are a dedicated team of developers, researchers, and editors who update and maintain our databases on a daily basis. So to answer your question: the info you see in the app is as accurate and reliable as can be.

How many cities are available in the app?

Our database currently includes over 5000 locations worldwide. New cities are added all the time.

Why did you remove the Time Zone Map?

Our previous World Clock Gold app included a Time Zone Map, but we experienced issues with accuracy, loading time, and file size of the app. We are considering adding the Time Zone Map to the current app at a later date when we have found a satisfactory solution to these problems.

How do I remove my location from the list of favorites?

Go to Settings > Your location and disable Show your location.

Is it still possible to enable dark mode?

The new World Clock app does not have the same dark mode option as the old one, but you can get a very similar result by using the iOS Invert Colors functionality. Simply open the iOS Settings App, go to General > Accessibility, and activate Invert Colors.

Why does the analog clock face change from white to black?

The analog clock has a white background between 6 am to 6 pm, indicating day time. At 6 pm, local time, it turns black.

I want to become a beta tester, how does that work?

We are looking for users who would like to test future versions of the app. If you are interested please send us your first and last name, as well as the email address you use for your iCloud account using the Submit feedback option in the app's settings menu. You will receive an email with instructions when a new release needs to be tested. If you do not wish to be a tester anymore, you can opt out at any time.

What about GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation)?

On May 25, 2018, the European Union introduced the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR ), which is legislation on data protection and privacy for all individuals within the EU.

This app does not access nor store any personal information. However, creating a support request from within the app will ask you to provide an e-mail address to allow us to respond. The support request will also gather a modest set of app-specific settings to help us resolve the support request.

The app uses Google Admob to display advertising which in turn helps fund future app development and maintenance. By granting consent, you allow Admob to provide a better-targeted advertising experience based on your interests.
